Tips for Winter Driving

This weekend’s wintery mix of precipitation reminds us that spring is not as close as we think here in Schuylkill County. If you’re doing any travelling in this weather, PennDOT offers a few tips to keep you safe on the roads.

Make sure all fluid levels are full.

Consider installing winter wiper blades if you find that your wipers streak.

Make sure your vehicle’s heater and defroster are working properly.

Make sure your vehicle’s radio is working properly so that you can keep up-to-date on weather and traffic reports.

All your vehicle lights should be in working order.

Ensure your tires are inflated properly and have sufficient tread to maneuver on slick roads.

Also, PennDOT provides free, 24-hour traveler information services through 511PA. You can call 511PA from your cell phone or landline to get traffic information for the majority of the 511PA network, including delay warnings, winter road conditions, accidents, construction updates, and weather forecasts. But remember, if you are driving, pull off the road before calling 511PA from your cell phone.
